The Shard

Good morning, afternoon, evening,

We are continuing to give you extra work for our English classes; it is also for whoever wants to practice their English.

- What is called: "The View from the Shard"?

- Why has the project of realizing the Shard been defined sustainable?

- What are the facets? Where else can you have them?

- What else of spectacular has the Italian architect Renzo Piano designed? Where?

We have been working on this blog just for a little while, but it’s worth thinking about it.

It is always a pleasure meeting students so eager to learn, considering English a “tessera” in their future, accepting all the suggestions we give them, but also coming to class with their own ideas.

The more you are surrounded by English, reading, watching films, the more you acquire the language.

Students' contribution too is fundamental.

If you devote time, energy, concentration to this "enterprise", it will work.

Two students who posted their comments were beginners in October, but they “dared” facing an advanced English text like  "The Women  of India" and found their own way to understand the text.

This extra material can integrate your study; find your own links with your personal life.

Ilaria, Franca, Francesco, Fabio, Caterina, Sara: communication of ideas works very well at this stage of work and the classroom is the proper place to draw attention on mistakes. To meet your request of having writings corrected, we are going to email considerations about them to you as individual students. By yourselves, after a while, you can read again what you wrote and see what can be improved. Then we can compare our evaluations.

There is so much more to know about Renzo Piano as an architect, and all his projects can be found on the Internet. These days, since Sara's comment is so recent, September 2018, there is also the project for the new bridge that has to built in Genoa, to substitue the collapsed one, Ponte Morandi. Whitout being called, Renzo Piano as a citizen, and a Genoese citizen, offered his skills to accelerate and  guarantee the recovery of a city  that needs, like any other in Italy, to be respected in its own rights, to be able to offer its inhabitants a serene life.

See you in class
