Synaesthesia and When Left is Right

Good morning, afternoon, evening,

Silvia, Federica, Elisa, Mirella, Daniele, Loretto,

what do you know about the two subjects of the page before reading the articles?

There is this idea that acquiring a new language makes you loose yours. That's completely wrong, since it is just when you acquire a new one that you may compare the two languages.

You can also improve the first you learned, since it is a great opportunity to notice differences and similarities, and then developing this skill.

An example? There are so many, but just a few: nobody knows any more how to say spelling in Italian, because they do not even think of it as an English word.

Speaking of left-handed people, nobody knows how to say right-handed in Italian and they mix humans with shells.

They notice that in Italian too words can have two meanings only after knowing that about English words.

What an opportunity then to broaden horizons! Word by word, as much as you like and want, up to you to decide, life is not long enough.

Do you know any other fields where synestheasia can be applied as a reference to understand?

Let us know, write your comment and we'll read them in class.

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy your English

The same approach happens from the other side: also people, who have relationships with us, have the same reactions. This mechanism is called “back-tranfert” and it is unconscious in the same way.
Freud studied the phenomenon in psycoanalysis, in the relation between analyst and patient, and thought that “back transfert” impeded to analyst to see the patient as they really are, with all consequential troubles which this behaviour involves.

Talking about synesthesia, Anna suggested us that we could write something about “transfert” and “back transfert”. I didn’t know the subject at all, so I searched something in the Net. I have learnt that “transfert” is an unconscious mental mechanism which makes us see in one person features or behaviours that we found in another person who we have had an emotional connection with; so, for example, if I suffered a betrayal from one friend or colleague of mine, when I meet people and begin a friendship or another type of relationship, I behave with them with diffidence; my approach will be negative. In some cases, this behaviour falsifies human relationships, but in other cases it could be useful because allows us to recognize small signs that make us discover if this person is authentic.

Hi. Very interesting article but it's hard to find connecting-the-dots.it in search results.
You are out of google's top ten, so you can't expect big traffic.
You need high quality backlinks to rank in serps.
And you can get them for free, just search
in google: fasrixo's tools

He explained to his students that while he was listening to sounds, he saw colors intellectually, but no one of them believed him. In his works appear synesthetic indications, which are associate with visual and auditory perceptions and are described in detail the colors he associated with the sound of scales, chords, musical tones.

I didn't know what it was the synesthesia, netheir it relationship with being left-handed. The subject intrigued me, so I looked for more informations and connections with music, and searching I discovered a French composer, pianist, organist and ornithologist who was a synaesthetic, Olivier Messiaen. He begin his musical study as a child, he entered in conservatory of Paris in the 1919 at theage of 10 years, he became the titular organist of the church of the Sainte-Trinitè in Paris; he was professor of harmony and composition at the Paris conservatory. He was fascinated by the birdsong, he said that they were the greatest musicians on earth. In his travels he was able to hear and record the singing of numerous birds, making transcriptions for piano with poetic notations about the intensity of the colors of their plumage, according to the synesthetic relationships between sound and color.

I’ve never heard of synaesthesia before now, but I often try to find out some ways to remember things or numbers better. In our lives numbers are increasingly important: if you think about the access keys to use credit cards or passwords to enter all electronic databases, you know what I mean.
How can I remember the PIN key of my credit card? I can do it only if I find the right connection between the PIN number and a known number. I often have successful result if I use the “chunking” method, in the same way as described in the article, even if I didn’t know anything about these studies.
We are used to complain about increase of things to remember, but we have to think that all these are occasions to train our memory: let’s look at the good side of the coin!
